Governance

The MDP is the result of successful grant applications funded by the Medical Research Council (MRC) and the UK Government’s Department for International Development (DFID).

The MDP is co-ordinated jointly by the MRC Clinical Trials Unit and Imperial College at St Mary’s Hospital. These two institutions are directly responsible to the MRC and the Department for International Development for the conduct of the programme. The ten legal entities constituting the Members of MDP, signed an MDP Framework Collaboration Agreement on 25 January 2006, which lays out the joint vision and objectives of the partnership. This legally binding document describes the roles and responsibilities of each Member, together with the remit of, interaction between, the various committees and boards which govern the activity of the MDP. The MDP Framework Collaboration Agreement complements the ‘Guidelines for Good Clinical Practice in Clinical Trials, 1998’ which require structures and committees to be set up to monitor progress of the trial. The structures set up for the MDP are shown below.
