The Programme Management Board, representing all institutional partners, is responsible for the overall management of the MDP including review of progress and planning of future activities. A representative from each MDP institutional partner sits on the PMB (usually the principal investigator at each site).
The PMB:
- is Co-Chaired by jointly elected North/South representatives.
- Meets at least twice a year, once by teleconference and one face-to-face. The Co-Chairs have the authority to call additional emergency meetings as needed.
- PMB reports annually to the International Scientific Advisory Group (the PMB Joint Chairs will provide an update at ISAG’s annual meeting) and takes appropriate action on the recommendations of the ISAG.
- approves all major strategic decisions about the MDP.
- reviews the annual scientific report to be submitted to the MRC and DFID.
- has ultimate responsibility for grant or denial of approval of any publications, presentations and other public release of information about the MDP referred to the PMB by the PLG; and deciding on the authorship policy.
- ensures that DFID and MRC are informed if one of the objectives described in the grant applications or protocols is threatened.
- consults with site PIs and approve adjustments to targets if they prove unrealistic.
