| The two MDP trial sites are situated at the Reproductive
Health and HIV Research Unit, within the grounds
of the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in Soweto, which
is a tertiary referral hospital, and trial participants
have access to this hospital, and Orange Farm, which
is 30km South of Soweto.
The volunteers are recruited from an
urban population of an estimated total of 2.5-3 million
in 31 districts cover 63km².
The Principal Investigator is
Professor Helen Rees, who is the Executive Director
of the Reproductive Health and HIV Research Unit, Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology,
University of Witwatersrand. She has worked in
clinical trials for than 10 years. |
